Rich Chocolate Donuts
Lazy Sunday mornings or afternoon snacks pair perfectly with our Rich Chocolate Donuts!
Rich Chocolate Donuts are a tasty treat and so fun to make. Baked homemade cake like donuts are easy and there’s no cutting dough or deep frying required.
Our Rich Chocolate Donuts are truly a chocolate lover’s dream!
To make them, prepare two nonstick donut pans generously with cooking spray. Next, combine the melted butter, milk, vinegar, brewed coffee, sugars, salt, espresso powder and vanilla. Whisk then add the eggs. In a large bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and powder. Pour in the wet ingredients and stir together. Add in the chocolate chips to the thick batter.
Fill a zipper plastic bag with the batter (see our notes below for easy tips!). Pipe the batter into the prepared donut pans, filling the wells halfway. Do not fill completely, or the donuts will not retain their shape with the hole in the middle. The batter is forgiving, so after you fill the wells, you can shape the donuts with your hands, too, for that perfect round shape.
Bake the donuts, but do not overbake. Cool in the pans for 5 minutes and release onto a cooling rack. Let the donuts firm and cool completely before frosting. After the Rich Chocolate Donuts are cooled, you can simply dust with powdered sugar or glaze and decorate.
To prepare the glaze for the Rich Chocolate Donuts, set up two rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper and place cooling racks on top. Combine the butter, chocolate chips corn syrup and coffee together in a large bowl and heat until melted and silky in the microwave. Using two tablespoons, take the Rich Chocolate Donuts for a dip in the glaze. Move the donuts onto the baking sheets, sprinkle with fun toppings and let the glaze set completely before eating.
