Luxe Chocolate Pie
When I asked a colleague about her family’s Easter traditions, chocolate pie was at the top of her list! The Luxe Chocolate Pie recipe was inspired by her celebration.
Our Luxe Chocolate Pie is an old-fashioned pudding recipe made with 4 different types of chocolate. Luxurious and rich for a holiday or cool on a summer’s day if you serve it frozen. Chocolate milk, cocoa powder, baking bars, and a simple chocolate crust.
First, there’s the homemade pudding. It’s simple to make, with mostly pantry ingredients you may already have! Whisk together the chocolate milk, espresso powder, eggs and yolks in a glass measuring cup. In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, cocoa powder, corn starch and salt. Pour the milk mixture into the saucepan. Whisk the pudding until it boils, for several minutes as it cooks.
Remove the pudding from the heat and add the chocolate bars, butter and extract, stirring so the butter will melt from the residual heat. Strain the pudding through a mesh sieve over a medium glass bowl. Cover the pudding with plastic wrap directly on the mixture, until it reaches room temperature. The pudding will thicken as it cools. Cool overnight in the refrigerator. Store the pudding for up to 3 days.
The Luxe Chocolate Pie starts by mixing the Easy Homemade Chocolate Pudding and whip cream together. Carefully spoon the pudding mixture evenly into the crust.
Carefully Add the Pudding Evenly in the Crust
Refrigerate the pie overnight, or even better, for a cool treat, serve it frozen! Arrange fun seasonal candy or sprinkles over the pie just before serving.
There are a few different ways to adjust the flavor. Try adding ½ teaspoon of peppermint or almond extract to the pudding mixture. For a peanut butter chocolate pie, add ½ cup of creamy peanut butter with the butter as the pudding cools.
The very best part is that the Luxe Chocolate Pie is that it does not require any special tools. It is easy for a beginner and perfect for kids to help!
